Winter Solstice and Full Moon

Winter Solstice, 21st December 22:25 GMT - Full Moon, 22nd December 17:51 GMT

This year we have a full moon within 24 hours of the Winter Solstice so a double dose of special-ness :-).  Many will also be celebrating Yule although my studies with the runes suggest that this may not have been the case for the ancient Norse.  

It would seem most likely that they would have waited for the first full moon following a new moon after Solstice.  The Solstice however certainly marked the beginning of a period of celebrations that stretched right through into the New Year.  Bear in mind of course in the days before artificial lighting, and living that far north with a period of no apparent sun-rise, there was very little to be done outside ... long days and nights spent drinking mead and ale by the fireside, recounting ancient tales, makes a great deal of sense!  The Yule full moon by this accounting will fall next year on 21st January ... so a potential month of festivities :-) 

Solstice - the moon will be in 45.3

Mmm, that feels like a very appropriate message at this time of year.

For the Full Moon - here I have picked the Sun's position, 10.3, as I have already covered the Moon's position in the December report below.

During this period we have Mars alongside Chiron in 36, this is the energy of the light hidden, very appropriate for Solstice, it's about looking inwards and nurturing your inner light ready to shine forth when the time is right.  Mars brings us the outward doing energies, also the warlike attributes, Chiron brings our attention to what requires healing and in this gate urges us to honour our inner lights.

We also have Jupiter sharing a gate with Mercury, gate 9 - focus.  

They are conjunct in this Solstice/Full moon period in 9.5

New Moon - 07:20 GMT 7th December

EDIT - We also have Mars together with Neptune in 63 - the gate of doubts and critical perception ...

There are 64 divisions in the Human Design system, and only 12 in the astrological wheel.  As such HD often gives a more focused message as planets pass by, or rather, there are more possible aspects involved so to speak, 64, rather than 12.  I think this is one of the strengths of the system.

However, the gate numbers aren't arranged around the wheel in numerical order and as such it can be quite easy to miss when various planets are actually in close alignment with one another . . . for example, for this upcoming New Moon, which will be in 5.4 (so close to the beginning of the next gate), we can easily see that Baccus and Vulcan are in the same position simply by checking what is sitting in gate 5.  However, the next gate in the progression is 26, astrologically speaking, pretty much conjunct with 5, but it doesn't logically appear that way! Not unless you know the order of course ... so today I had a look to see what is round about the players in what I think will be a powerful set of energies for this last new moon of the calendar year.

The position of the Sun and Moon will be 5.4, we also have Baccus in 5.5 and Vulcan in 5.3, so here we might consider these two extra planets may be in the mix.  Vulcan is about tools of consciousness (we have Pluto in 54 and Neptune in 63) so we have an interesting combination here around chances to step up and breakthrough/clarify spiritual practices perhaps.  This gate is centred around the Great Attractor so it has a strong element of the crossroads about it (see previous posts).  Baccus was the party dude of course but also about rituals and potential madness, the GA has that aspect too.

The following gate is 26 (the trickster) so anything located here is also likely to be a factor and we have Circe, she's an enchantress, among other attributes and often associated with where we are in touch with reality, or not ... think you can see a theme arising here! A saving grace maybe Eunomia, she's a Greek law and good order Goddess!

With human design we also see where the channels are being activated too - 5 links to 15, this gate is about humility/humanity/modesty ... it will be empty at this time ... mmm.

Opposite the Sun's position (astrologically) will be  ...

The Earth in 35.4 and alongside will be Eros, he can be about our lost creative capacity but also the erotic and this is the gate of adventure of course!

The next gate along, and therefore a near astrological conjuction is 45 where we have Asbolus - he is a seer, but also associated with unfortunate outcomes for helping others - the message here is be wary who you support, tune into your knowing - inner truth is key in this particular gate position as well.

The channel partner for 35 is 36 and here we have Chiron in his last few months of this gate for another 50 years offering healing to our hidden inner lights.  There's a few with him, notably Hygiea (wound cleansing perhaps) and Urania known for pattern-seeing, astrology, poetry and for helping us see the wood for the trees.

Mercury turns direct just before the New Moon, so hopefully communications will begin to become clearer.

Eihwaz - this translates as Yew and is traditionally associated with death - however, this can be seen more generally as the end of something that heralds a transformation.  Dying to old ways to allow the new a space to grow.  It's associated with Kundalini awakenings, moments of clarity that something has to change although the way ahead may not be obvious, but the pressure to move forward is felt.

DECEMBER - stay alert for choices, where does your truth lie?

I don't know about you but November delivered quite a punch I would say!  Plenty going on and a few incidents from left field to keep me on my toes.

And so to December ... my eye has been caught by Tyr and Odin travelling quite closely together this month, firstly through gate 32 and then for the second half through gate 50.  Tyr is the Norse God of truth and honesty, and also of sacrifice for the greater good, and Odin of course brought us the Rune knowledge and is the All Father in the Norse pantheon. Gate 50 is all about values/rules (very much a Tyr energy and he should feel right at home here) - watch out for issues around the theme of truth and of sacrifice for the greater good, Saturn will also weigh in here later in the month as you'll see below.

32 is essentially about endurance and for all of December Pluto is in 54 which is the other half of the 32-54 human design channel of transformation.  Pluto is all things soul destiny/longing, and in this gate, where he's been for some time, he's working the upgrade energy of ambition (Marrying Maiden gate).  With Odin and Tyr hooking up in 32 for the first few days of December this seems a powerful combination, especially as for the first week we also have Odin's wife, Frigga with Pluto (she is a seer and of equal standing alongside Odin) . 

Hekate (the keeper of the crossroads) is in 46 the gate of synchronicities from the 10th so I'm feeling there will be some interesting energy and choice points likely for those on the spiritual path.  And bear in mind the New Moon will trigger that Great Attractor point again (almost exact, with the Sun and Moon in 5.4) on the 7th, just as Mercury stations direct having triggered it last month - I think this could be very powerful.

Another theme I see is brought by Lilith and Pallas who will move through 57 in the second half of the month, the most intuitive energy in the cycle. At the same time Vesta will be working the energy of sensitivity in 19.  Pallas in some ways is a similar archetype to Tyr being about truth and justice and also courage.  Lilith and Pallas are strong females and Vesta is often seen as being about what is sacred to us.  With the activations mentioned above I really feel we could be in for some big shifts in consciousness.

Moon - New in 5.4 on 7th at 07:20 GMT, Full in 15.3 at 17:51 GMT 22nd

Winter Solstice/Yule - 21st at 22:25, the Sun will be in 10.2 "The wise student travels his path with acceptance and contentment, remaining free of entanglements and conflicts.  In this way there is  happiness" BBW

Saturn is the only one of the slower planets to shift gates this month when he finally leaves 58 for another 29 or so years and moves into 38 on the 16th.  This gate is about resistance, opposition, sometimes called the fighter.  In it's more positive guise it's about picking one's battles and fighting the good cause - in many ways it is another energy about truth seeking so there's no let up it would seem!

1st - 3rd - we finish up the Sun focussing our attention with the earth in the energy of enthusiasm.  As I type we are in the first day of this energy and it has propelled me to get on and focus on the transits and produce this for your delight!  I've done my best to curb too great an enthusiasm for all the Gods and Goddesses to give you a fighting chance of reading this without falling asleep! I'm sure having Mercury in 14 and Jupiter in 34 has given power to my words as well :-) and Mars is all about working for the community too in 37!

Chetan 37.4 (Mars on 1st) Enriching: Supporting the family's prosperity.  You emphasize the well-being of families involves everyone's presence and contributions.

4th - 8th - the Sun in 5, rhythm and Earth in 35, adventure.  With Chiron in 36 we have the channel of versatility triggered for a few days.  This can also be the 'leap into the unknown out of boredom' energy which will make the Sun feel most uncomfortable as it will be tuned into the predictable for a few days.  Perhaps a sense of being torn between leaping and staying put will be felt. 

Mercury turns direct on the 7th just as we have the New Moon almost over that Great Attractor I've talked about.  This is going to be a week to really hold on to the focus you developed the week before so you don't find yourself up a creek without a paddle! 

5.4 the New Moon point - Chetan has a line specifically for the Sun in this position ... "5.4 Biding Time: Patience that leaves you open to find worthwhile opportunities.  Attempting to force the pace of life, you will lose opportunities in predictable sequences!"

9th - 14th - now the Sun moves into the gate of the trickster, 26, or, the really good salesman that delivers ... beware!  The Earth will bring the energy of the ruler/gathering together.  Mars is now in gate 63 and conjunct with Neptune till the 12th bringing the ability to communicate all things spiritual; just beware the snake-oil spiritual salesmen.  Venus who helps out with our relationships will be in struggle and not make it to the insightful energy of 44 till the 14th, so be very careful.

BBW 45.2 Earth position for 10th "Allow yourself and others to be guided by inner truth.  Those who belong together will come together naturally.  Be sincere and let the Creative do the work."

15th - 19th - a breathing space of sorts as the Sun moves into 11 the gate of peace and harmony, and ideas :-) hooray!  The Earth is somewhat more intense in 12 the gate of standstill, but it is that space where you can pause and review and used wisely helps you move forward with clarity - this gate is considered one that allows connections to the extraordinary worlds and is another piece in the jigsaw that helps me see December as a chance to take steps forward if on the esoteric path.  Venus is bringing us the energy of recognising what is coming to meet us and Mars is in 22 which will give us all the 12-22 channel.  This can be very intense, very high, very low, it is a manifesting, emotional channel.

11.5 is the Galactic Centre, so it's all happening this month! The Sun will be there on the 18th ...

20th - 25th - Sun in 10 and Earth in 15, Yule/Solstice, Full moon, Christmas!!  And ... Chiron conjunct with Mars; this would suggest the highlighting of the wounded male perhaps and with the Earth in the gate of extremes/modesty and the Sun in 'Treading (on the Tiger's tail)' this could be a sensitive time.  Venus will be in the most yang (masculine) gate but could bring some creative energy to soothe ruffled feathers.  Be very aware this week because Mercury will be crossing back over that great attractor.  Jupiter should be helpful bringing the energy of focus to make wise decisions.

Full Moon position 15.3, 22nd, Chetan "Being Modest: An unwavering commitment to finish what you start.  Completing all tasks while you remain unassuming in achievement." 

26th - 30th (I'll cover 31st in next month's) - Sun in 58 and Earth in 52 - I hope this will give us all a few days of being still and enjoying the rewards of our hard work!   Mercury could play a few tricks in the gate of the trickster but Venus is feeling very insightful and Mars moves into the gate of Innocence. 

27th Chetan 58.2 "Looking Onwards: Attunement to your inner joy attracts enjoyable activities.  Your inner calm creates external joy, or may you just seek out thrills as a means of escape."

Wow, that seems like a bit of a month.  I've done my best not to write War and Peace!

And so to the Runes, which is fast becoming my favourite divination guide.  Till 13th December we are in the half-month of Isa a moment of standstill, of reflection.  From the 14th we move to Jera which represents a full yearly cycle, a chance to review the harvest amongst other things.

I have asked the Runes which would like to step forward to guide us through December and it is ...

Ansuz - this translates as 'mouth' and is about communications, and learning, about gaining answers and finding teachers.  It is considered by many to be Odin's rune for his transmission of the knowledge. 

Wishing you all a peaceful conclusion to 2018 and I look forward to returning to share 2019 with you.  As ever I dare say I will have some 'ahas' to post between now and the end of the month, but for now, adieu.

FULL MOON - 23rd (22nd in the US)

The full moon this month occurs in gate 20, line 1 

EDIT - I felt guided to add what BBW writes for 20 line 1 

"Others may not yet recognise the correctness of following truth.  The superior person leads them to this by deepening her own contemplation."

Also in this position, apart from the Earth of course (which is what makes for a Full Moon), is Echeclus, Bienor and Admetos.  Some interesting characters being activated here.

There isn't a great deal said about Echeclus, he's a Centaur that came to a grisly end but this has been noted over at Chiron and Friends (quoting Amable's Blog, trans-neptunian astrology);

"When Echeclus is activated, there are time connections between past, present and future. Usually something of the past has imposing influence in the present, and something of the present can have an imposing influence in the future, and vice versa"

This is interesting given we are just past Mercury over the Great Attractor with its time-warping aspects where he will return in December.  Certainly some sifting/reappearance of old influences are likely.  

Bienor is about synchronicities and breakthrough solutions, often from unexpected events, so very much in the 'timing' frame of reference as well and Admetos is often seen as the anchor around which life events circle, again a time and space energy going on.

Opposing this position is the Sun in 34, line 1 ... a sacral gate with Jupiter and Atlantis, a lost city from history.  Mmm, an aspect of the hidden here, but also of course the triumph of technology over nature before its destruction.  Jupiter is about expansion, but also your personal law. 

This hexagram position is about ensuring you have a firm foundation whilst you gather strength.  There is not enough strength yet to move forward without misfortune, and perhaps Atlantis reminds us of this.

BBW "Your power is being directed by your ego now.  Detach, disengage and restore you equanimity, or there will be humiliation."

This feels like a moment to allow the full moon to shine on any decisions you may be considering, any turning points, sit with what is highlighted, but do not act yet, wait for further confirmations to arrive. 

I asked for a Rune for the Full Moon ... Uruz stepped forward ... this is the second letter in the Runic Alphabet (the Elder Futhark) and means Aurochs, now extinct wild cattle.  It represents willpower and determination.  The power of the self, and can be associated with rites of passage.  It is at the very beginning of the sequence when one is still gathering strength and focussing attention, and very much confirms for me this moment is not about taking action immediately but biding one's time.

Hello!

Mercury arrives at the Great Attractor today, 5.3 in HD gate terms.  A fixed point where time and space bends, going in all directions at once . . . a choice point where one is drawn into something that intrigues and can open greater understanding.

Mercury is all about our communications and this is the point where he will station on Saturday and perform the final retrograde of the year, so another chance to review and look inward with the ways you communicate, with self perhaps, as well as with others . . . watch out for snags with your digital comms, check your fuel and oil levels in your vehicles and generally try to travel and communicate a little more mindfully.

This 5.3 point has the potential for madness as you are drawn in multiple directions simultaneously and requires you to carefully reference the past as you make decisions that will take you into the future, be focussed when choosing the path. Mercury will return to this point on the 24th December once he has turned direct again.  This gives a 6 week window between passes of this powerful point in which to survey the direction ahead.

Chetan for 5 line 3: Being Nervous:  The potential to become anxious when it seems nothing is happening. All waiting has an implied helplessness that can prompt you to act without clear motivation.

We've just had Mars rampaging through 30, the clinging fire, intensifying our presentation to the world and likely ruffling some feathers with Jupiter providing some potent powerful expansion.

With Crossroads and choice points in mind I checked to see where Hekate is - she is the keeper of the Crossroads and we find her in 6, conflict, in opposition with Chiron who has just moved back to 36, hidden light.  Testy and potentially testing times ahead for a week or two but plenty abound to tap into for constructive change and healing.

Ariadne and Kaali are in 21, the gate of control/biting through, a potent mix; the former is all about allowing the illusions to fall away to hear your true calling which will likely involve a painful test through the labyrinth with the latter being a powerful change-bringer burning away the dross.

We have just completed the half month for the rune Hagalaz, disruption, and are now into two weeks or so with the energy of Nauthiz, need, that which is yearned for but not yet manifested, but is available with adjusted perception.  Seems very appropriate.

I've asked for a Rune for this Mercury retrograde period and it is . . .

Teiwaz - here we have the energy of Truth and Justice and of the noble sacrifice for the greater good.  Tyr is associated with this rune, an ancient Norse God who sacrificed his right hand in order to tether Fenrir to keep Asgard and its realms safe.

A lot of definition by transit just now ...

9 am GMT 11 November ... the moon in 10 giving the G centre definition for an hour or two more.  The next 6 days we have the Ajna-Throat definition ... freak to genius channel, be on the alert for some unusual communications and/or ideas floating around especially with 3-60 in play courtesy of Uranus and the south node - this one's all about bringing the new into being.

New Moon

Today we have the New Moon.  I have seen this one described as feminine which I find a bit difficult to work out!

Here is today's chart, the moon will be in 1 along with the Sun which is the most yang position, it will be opposite the Earth in 2, the most yin.  See how it plays for you.

Notice we have two individual channels active including the 14-2 the tantric channel of alchemy so I would say lots of potential to harness this energy for moving forward with new projects having left behind all we've been sorting and sifting over recent months.
