Chiron revisted
Back toward the end of April I devoted a post to Chiron as he moved into a new energy, gate 17. This is a little snippet from that post ...
"The essence of 17 is that in order to lead one must first perfect the art of following, and as with all things in the I Ching that is essentially following our Inner Truth, and the Sage (universe). Through following our inner truth we walk a path that others feel as authentic and will be happy to fall in step with.

Alfred Huang gives us a deeper look at the origins of this archetype. 17 contains the four virtues and is considered a very auspicious gua (hexagram) ... he cites an ancient story of a woman consulting a Master of the I Ching ... 17 was drawn and she was told that all was favourable to be married and follow her husband. However, she stated that for her the time was not yet here as she did not yet possess these four great virtues. Here Huang explains how this lady exemplifies the way in which the energies of the I Ching should be used. He narrates the story of King Wu in his process to overthrow the Tyrant of Shang ... he called several gatherings before he felt he had a broad enough consensus to move forward and be successful. King Wen saw that when people come together, and are ready to follow, that is when success ensues.
So we now have a period of time when Chiron will bring through this energy. He of course is the archetype of the wounded healer ... he shows us where we need to heal in order to live the energy positively for others to follow suit, and with 17 we are talking about healing our ability to be true to ourselves and our inner truth in order to be worthy of following."
I have rather taken my eye off the non-standard planets this summer (as far as regular astrology goes) and simply focused on the main players. But, Chiron is an important energy, especially if you are around the age of 50 now as you will be experiencing your Chiron return. This can be a very testing time that can often span a couple of years depending on Chiron's progress through the circuit.
At the moment he is moving retrograde through 17 having first entered this gate back in April, in fact today he sits in line 2 ... almost exactly conjunct with Salacia, a heavenly body named after the goddess who was the consort of Neptune ... she's associated with healing waters, you can see the Latin route of the word saline in her name. Salacia was the personification of the calm and sunlit aspect of the sea. She would be a good energy to call in if you are struggling through your Chiron return period or around those that are.
BBW - 17.2 - Do not cling to what is inferior, either in yourself or others. If a person or thought or practice is not in harmony with the principles of the Sage, quietly let go.
Hilary Barrett has a slightly different interpretation - 'Bound to the small child, letting the mature man go' - The child is still unformed and open to all possible futures; he is more guided by interaction with others than by a personal sense of direction. He is light and spontaneous, not settled and responsible. You're tending to bind yourself to the small child; if you do so, you lose the mature man. This can be an inner or outer bond - to a person or a role and way of being. In either case, it's a very simple alternative; you cannot be, or have, both.

Full Moon - 12:31 GMT - 15 August
The full moon this month coincides with Venus being conjunct with the Sun, so that's in opposition to the Moon's position of course. Alongside the Moon we have Icarus and Achilles, so an interesting combination of energies.
Mars will be moving through gate 29, the abyss. This I Ching hexagram is water, over water, and the energy is all about the deluge, the flood, the art is to allow yourself to flow with what you are encountering neither clinging to the side for dear life nor being inundated and drowning. In Human Design this energy is often associated with a 'yes', it's that impulse to agree to anything that will relieve the pressure, the unknown. Mars represents our action in the world, traditionally seen as the yang and masculine parts of ourselves. So be very aware of a potential to agree to something you may later regret. Sometimes it's better to tread-water, however uncomfortable that may feel in the moment.
Venus and the Sun will be in 4 line 4 ... this is a very particular moment, 4 is an ajna gate, so we are dealing with mental energy, it looks for answers and is often linked to out of the box thinking and novel solutions. Chetan has this to say:
4.4 Justifying: A busy mind that somehow is going to find an answer for everything. (The Sun has a special line for this position ...) You find mental formulas, realistic or not, for every conceivable life situation.
Hold that second sentence in mind, when combined with the urge to agree to anything to reduce the pressure this Full Moon could be very tricky to negotiate. Make sure any decision you need to make truly feels right for you around this time.
And there are other warning signs for you ... conjunct the Moon will be Icarus, he flew too close to the Sun and Achilles, the one with the vulnerable point - are in gate 49, the revolution. Definitely not a day for going against your inner knowing. If you feel overwhelmed to make a decision take 24 hours and see how it feels Thursday, if you have to make a choice take some time alone to really tune into what you are feeling, and trust it.
And for the Runic energy ... Gebo. This one is about the exchange, the gift, it's about the bonds made between people as they give and receive - it's also associated with contracts too. It's interesting this one should step forward as the moment of Full Moon happens in line 4 which is all about our networks, where we give and receive. When I journeyed to this Rune during my apprenticeship I was shown the importance of standing at the mid point to achieve balance, neither giving too much nor receiving too little. Odin says in the Havamal that one should not receive more than one is prepared to give in return.
I forgot to give you the half months for August ... we have just finished Thurisaz which was giants and difficulties, but having the tools to overcome them. From 13th we are working with Ansuz, this is Odin's rune and about answers and communications.

Jupiter and Uranus
I missed mentioning that Jupiter will turn direct this month, on the 12th, pretty much over the Great Attractor point located at gate 5 in line 3. This echoes back to the January eclipse fortnight when Jupiter was also at this point and there were a number of activations of the Great Attractor in play. Might be interesting for those that journal to see what was going on back then. This could mark a completion point.

August - take some time out
Well, July certainly played out as anticipated, especially the last few days with the momentum finally picking up and several of my friends making great strides and having breakthroughs. But for all the excitement of the last few days it has been a tough month for many of us as we've dealt with Mercury in the retrograde phase along with any number of conjunctions and oppositions and eclipes... and that's without the heatwave, the monsoons and the changing political landscape!
I'm going to give a quick overview and no more for August. To be honest it's a bit soul-destroying pouring heart and soul into these monthly updates when I get next to no feedback from anyone. And I've double-checked to make sure the comments section here is working, and it is!
We start the month with another Sabbat, the first of the three harvest festivals- Lamas. This one is all about the grain harvest and occurs on the 1st and is also associated with hand-fasting, so happy celebrations to anyone who might be plighting their troth 😊. It's also marked by making corn dollies ... today out cycling through the corn fields I stopped and gathered a small handful of still standing wheat ...
Mercury goes direct on the 1st as well, yippee, but be prepared for him making his way back through all the throat gates ... communication is still very much the theme.
And on this day we also have the New Moon at 03:14 GMT in 33 line 2
"One cries out for a just resolution. This can only come if we quietly observe proper principles. Avoid placing demands on the universe, and success will come." BBW
Saturn moves to 38, the gate of the fighter on the 9th, so we finally lose the emphasis on the 54 although we still of course have the south node there but hopefully with Saturn's gaze moving on we have a respite from constantly reviewing our upgrading process. Be aware though Saturn will now be reviewing the battles you fight, are they just, are they purposeful, or are you just wasting your energy.
All the other slower moving planets remain in the gates they've been in for some considerable time so no great change of energy.
There will be a focus on gate 7 through the month which is interesting along side Saturn making that move. 7 is about leadership, the democratic type. In the I Ching the 7th hexagram is named the Army and the energy is about understanding who your true allies are, moving with one ideal, with an emphasis on proper conduct, caution and humanity. In divination this hexagram heralds a time of challenging circumstances and advises one to be very sure of those around them, treating them fairly and being rewarded by loyalty.
1 - 5 - Sun in 33, listening retreat, Earth in 19, sensitivity. With Venus in 31 another leadership-style gate a good week for sensitive and intuitive communications. New Moon kicks off this week as Mercury turns direct.
6 - 11 - Sun in that gate 7 mentioned above and the Earth in 13 the other listening gate. Venus has taken the baton from the Sun and continues the listening retreat energy and Mercury is feeling very articulate still. Mars has been travelling through the gate of 'out of the box thinking' so an interesting week provided you are able to sit back and take in what's on offer.
12 - 17 - Sun now 'thinking out of the box', and the Earth feeling the revolution with Mercury leading in 31 and with Venus conjunct the sun we have some potential here for shake-ups in relationships especially with Mars travelling through 29 ... this could herald a very emotional week where you need to trust the flow even if it doesn't appear to be going where you thought you were heading (or wanted to go)! Saturn may well play out here highlighting whether you are truly following the correct path for you, or are you fighting against yourself. Full Moon may well shine an uncomfortable light bringing focus to the revolution in progress ...
49.4 "Great changes are only possible if your inner attitude is blameless. That which is not just will not last" BBW ... that seems very appropriate with the energies in play this month. We are really being urged to walk the talk.
18 - 23 - This IS the fiery week heralding Leo of course! Sun in 29 the deluge and the Earth in 30 the clinging fire and Venus still tracking the Sun's position so again I think we are looking at relationships, and emotions and Mars is bringing the energy of 59, this is all about a seeking masculine energy, often associated with procreation and of war. At the end of the week we have Mars and Venus conjunct just as the Sun moves there too ... sexual tension at its peak I'd say.
24 - 28 - The sun with that 59 energy and the Earth feeling abundant! Mercury is now moving into new territory following the retrograde and communications may well benefit from a pause, find time to be alone with your thoughts, mediate, take a walk, whatever works for you. Mars will be conjunct Mercury so you may well discover you can find the solution to work issues etc by taking a time-out.
29 - into September, a time out for all of us with the Sun now in 40 and the Earth in 37. This forms a channel which is all about community ... light the BBQ but be aware with Mercury and Mars sitting in 40 make sure there are plenty of quiet corners to escape to as well.

We do have 33 in play through much of the month and this is about retreating in order to realign. Isa is about the time when we are still, we've come through the hailstorms, surveyed the wreckage and now need to turn inward in order to reconfigure ourselves to rebirth.
In Norse mythology the creation of all things comes when Ice meets fire so we have the power of the Sun and a Summer month and harvest-time with Isa ... a good month perhaps to prepare for a new way in the Autumn.

New Moon and Lunar Eclipse 16 July
We are certainly being played with by the planets right now ... or is that just me?!
For tomorrow's line up we have multiple conjunctions and oppositions and well, just about everything and the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure.

Well, are you listening? I'm having trouble hearing my soul calling at the moment I'm just very aware of how uncomfortable it feels in just about every aspect of my life, and I know I'm not alone.
So, tomorrow we have a full moon, a lunar eclipse, Mercury deeply into retrograde, Venus conjunct the North Node, Saturn Conjunct the South Node, so that means Saturn and Venus are in opposition ... the Moon and Earth's position is conjunct with Pluto and opposing the Sun.
Mars and Mercury are both in story-telling energies which I mentioned in the Mercury special post last month.
Lots of focus on our inner truth here, and of course Uranus is still sitting in the gate of nurturing.
For tomorrow I think the Sun's position gives some timely advice ...

I'm most intrigued to see which Rune feels ready to step forward for this event ...and it's ...
Perthro, the Rune with no known literal meaning. It's about chance, about the unfolding of what will be that we can't 'know' or control. It can be inspiration striking, unexpected meetings and connections, it can be openings into new ways of understanding.
It's message is to stay open and alert; the unexpected may transpire regardless of what you thought you knew or had planned!
July - Is Your Word Your Bond?
Many of the planets this month are moving through the gates I've just talked about in my Mercury post ... hence my choice of title for July! I think this month really is all about communication, in all forms, it's also about continuing to review the company we've kept, about being true to ourselves and our word being our bond.
Briefly ... all but Uranus, Venus and Mars will be retrograde this month ... Mercury joins that party on 8th July stationing in 31.3 see previous post.
The Moon - will be New on 2nd - 19:18 GMT and in solar eclipse 19:24 - 39 line 2
Chetan has a specific piece for the Moon at this position "You naturally provoke life, so you are constantly called on to meet situations face to face" 39 is the gate of provocation and hardship (this is the way of personal growth ... or not).
Full Moon 21:40 GMT and lunar eclipse 21:32 16th - 61.4

Jupiter starts July by moving into 5 where he'll stay till mid September bringing his expansive energy to all things rhythm and timing ... several months of supporting us to find our personal rhythm. This is a sacral gate; with proper timing you can engage your life force appropriately.
Saturn remains conjunct with the south node, still reviewing your past upgrades, Uranus stays with the theme of nurturing, and watch out if you haven't got that message yet ... he's been there since mid April and he's not renowned for patience! Neptune is still vague and drifting through the gate of Grace, 22, still calling you out to see through false appearances both of the self, and others. As we've seen the last of 12 energy (sigh of relief for many) we won't be activating that highly emotional channel this coming month.
However ..., there's always a however eh ... the Sun/Earth will be conjunct with the nodes for the second week so there will be an impetus for progress as the sun teams up with the North Node but this is the week Mercury turns retrograde so be very clear with your communications and don't push forward without being really sure. For the rest of the month the Sun will move through the Mercury retrograde throat gates I've spoken of so it could make for a very vocal second half to the month and there will be another Mercury/Sun conjunction on 21st in 56.1 ...

Mars opens the month with these throat energies and Venus picks them up from 21st, so all in all every aspect of our being will be taken through them, work, how we communicate with the world, our relationships.

2nd - 7th Sun provoking and Earth in opposition, up for the fight, a solar eclipse and New Moon, Venus feeling extreme and Mars regaling stories. Quite a week!
8th - 12th Sun/Earth conjunct with North and South nodes, Mercury stationing for Retrograde 31.3. The Sun and NN may be pressing you for progress but Mercury's position cautions you to avoid rushing forward until the time is right.
13th - 18th Sun starts it's way through the Mercury throat gates, here we are in 62, precision over the details, the Earth will be conjunct Pluto this week seeking inner truth. We have the Full Moon on 16th and Mercury reviewing stories. Mars will be easing back and into the gate of retreat which should make the following week feel less pressured when Venus meets with the North Node.
19th - 24th Another Sun conjunction with Mercury in that story-telling gate, 56. The Earth will be there to contain any excesses as Venus picks up the pattern of making some progress as she now conjuncts with the North Node in 53 ... remember this progressive energy is about ensuring your roots are firmly secured before reaching up and onward and here perhaps this is around relationships this week.
25th - 30th The Sun is leading the way, hopefully with carefully chosen words, the Earth has realised all the necessary bases have been covered and is available to dream about the future and Mercury is able to articulate these ideals with some precision. Meantime Mars moved into another leadership gate, 7, the previous week so will be ready to align with the Sun's lead ... this feels like the best week we've had for a long time given you've done the work and been wise with your communications.

And the Rune for the month ... Thurisaz, Thor's rune, it is the giants, can be the difficulties but it's also about finding and knowing you have the tools to overcome any challenges.
And when you use those tools appropriately you can slide that thorn up the stave and you have Wunjo, the rune of joy and a sense of achievement!
